Promoting Public Guidelines to Prevent Human Casualties
Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, has started promoting public safety guidelines to prevent casualties as Typhoon No. 18 'Kraton' approaches from the south.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon No. 18 'Kraton' is currently moving northward over the sea about 620 km north of Manila, Philippines, with a strength classified as 'very strong' (47m/s).
The city is promoting typhoon preparedness guidelines for citizens through its official website and social media channels. The guidelines are as follows:
During a typhoon, citizens should: ▲Avoid areas prone to rapid flooding such as submerged roads, bridges, rivers, and coastlines ▲Stay away from mountainous areas when there is heavy rainfall ▲Keep clear of slopes, retaining walls, and embankments that may collapse ▲Do not check irrigation or drainage ditches, or rice paddy levees during typhoon or heavy rain warnings ▲Do not approach sewers or manholes ▲Avoid locations where falling objects such as glass windows or building signs may pose a danger, and move indoors ▲Elderly people and children should refrain from going outside.
Mayor Park Dongsik said, "Since autumn typhoons can cause significant damage, I ask all citizens to pay attention to the guidelines and conduct preemptive safety checks. We will continue to inspect disaster-prone and firefighting facilities to do our utmost to prevent casualties."
