Yangju City Conducts Joint Public-Private Special Crackdown on Illegal Taxi Operations Outside Jurisdiction
Yangju City conducted a special crackdown on the 26th in collaboration with individual and corporate taxi drivers to eradicate illegal taxi operations outside the jurisdiction.
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 27th that on the 26th, a special crackdown was conducted jointly with individual and corporate taxi drivers to eradicate illegal taxi operations by out-of-area taxis.
This special crackdown was organized to ensure the protection of taxi operating rights within the city and to establish transportation order through guidance and enforcement against taxis from other regions.
The crackdown targeted out-of-area taxis operating in violation of their business zones within the city, including refusal of rides during nighttime hours.
Participants focused on cracking down on out-of-area taxis that were parked for extended periods in the densely commercial area of Okjeong-dong, where there is a high floating population and frequent complaints, with the intent to pick up passengers traveling to areas such as Seoul and Uijeongbu, starting from 10 PM.
A city official stated, "Since the lifting of taxi restrictions after COVID-19, illegal operations by out-of-area taxis infringing on the operating rights of local taxi drivers have increased, prompting a joint public-private special crackdown to eradicate this issue."
