It Seems to Be a Two-Way Race Between Jeong Geun-sik and Jo Jeon-hyeok
The progressive camp's candidate for Seoul Superintendent of Education has been narrowed down to Jeong Geun-sik, an emeritus professor at Seoul National University. On the 26th, Bang Hyun-seok, a professor in the Department of Creative Writing at Chung-Ang University, and Kim Jae-hong, former president of Seoul Digital University, who were preliminary candidates, pledged their cooperation to Jeong.
Professor Bang stated in the afternoon, "The unification process should be multiplication, not subtraction. In this desperate situation, we must achieve a practical and final unification through our decision." He expressed his support for Jeong as the final unified candidate of the pro-democracy camp. He also urged Jeong, saying, "I believe you will definitely win and ensure that not a single child in Seoul studies with the New Right textbook."
Preliminary candidate Kim also met Jeong at Dalgaebi Restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon and declared unification. Kim said, "To protect progressive educational values and for the future of the children, I will join forces with candidate Jeong Geun-sik."
In response, Jeong expressed, "I deeply appreciate candidate Kim's decision," and added, "I will unite the power of the democratic progressive camp to innovate Seoul's education."

Earlier, the '2024 Democratic Progressive Superintendent of Education Promotion Committee' had endorsed Jeong as the unified candidate the day before. With the two preliminary candidates additionally supporting Jeong, the Seoul Superintendent of Education by-election on the 16th of next month is expected to be a two-way race between the progressive candidate Jeong and the conservative candidate Jo Jeon-hyeok.
