The police have identified 74 suspects in connection with deepfake sex crimes on Telegram and are accelerating the investigation.
Kim Bong-sik, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated at a regular press briefing on the 23rd, "We have formed a task force (TF) focused on responding to false video materials and are investigating 126 deepfake sex crime cases. We plan to conduct the investigation swiftly and strictly."
Commissioner Kim added, "Among the 74 suspects, 51 are teenagers, accounting for 69% of the total. There are 21 in their 20s and 2 in their 30s."
Regarding the Telegram corporation, he explained that a pre-indictment investigation (internal inquiry) is currently underway. Commissioner Kim said, "We are continuing the pre-indictment investigation targeting Telegram headquarters, and we are cooperating internationally as necessary according to procedures."
