Full-Scale Coastal Maintenance at Pyeongtaek Port... Creation of Waterfront Spaces Including Coastal Walkways
The Pyeongtaek Port hinterland complex will be transformed into a recreational and leisure space equipped with a waterfront promenade and a bicycle park.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it will invest a total of 17.3 billion KRW in the Pyeongtaek Coastal Maintenance Project, scheduled to be completed by December 2026, targeting the Sinyeong-ri area in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek City, with the goal of improving the coastal environment and revitalizing the local economy.
The Pyeongtaek Coastal Maintenance Project is an eco-friendly initiative aimed at renovating neglected areas near the port hinterland complex and restoring the natural functions of the tidal flats.
The main projects include creating a 53,650㎡ waterfront space featuring a bicycle park and an ecological observation experience center, as well as constructing a 6.4 km coastal promenade. Additionally, the area around Pyeongtaek Port will be transformed into a space for relaxation and leisure by linking with the Pyeongtaekho Tourist Complex, Gwongwan Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, and the National Leisure Camping Site Development Project. This is expected to improve the quality of life for local residents and contribute to job creation and revitalization of the local commercial district through attracting visitors.
This project became feasible for full-scale construction after the Pyeongtaek Port Drainage Channel Coastal Maintenance Project implementation plan was announced on the 13th, following its inclusion in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ 3rd Basic Coastal Maintenance Plan in 2020.
The coastal maintenance project is a nationally funded initiative promoted under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Basic Coastal Maintenance Plan, which is established every 10 years according to the Coastal Management Act. Its goal is to protect citizens’ lives and property from coastal disasters, restore damaged coastlines, and create waterfront spaces that the public can enjoy comfortably.
