113 Speeding Violations Captured Daily... Nationwide Top Speed Violation Spot is Gangnam Sunhwan-ro Gwanak IC

View original imageOver the past five years, the location with the most speeding violations was found to be the 'Seoul Gangnam Circular Road Gwanak IC.'
According to data submitted by the National Police Agency to Han Byung-do, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea (Jeonbuk Iksan-si Eul), the Gwanak IC on the Gangnam Circular Road in Gwanak-gu, Seoul (towards Suseo) ranked first nationwide for speeding enforcement from 2019 to 2023. In this section alone, 207,388 speeding cases were detected over five years, averaging 113.6 cases per day.
The opposite lane towards Gwangmyeong on the Gangnam Circular Road Gwanak IC recorded 83,535 cases. The Gangnam Circular Road Sadang IC, heading in the same direction, also had 97,644 cases detected over five years. Among the top 10 nationwide speeding enforcement locations, three are on the Gangnam Circular Road.
Following the nationwide number one spot, the locations with the most speeding violations were 'Opposite Gwacheon Disabled Welfare Center' (204,296 cases) and 'Namsan No. 2 Tunnel: Starting point (Yongsan-dong, Yongsan → Dongdaemun)' (168,398 cases). The fourth-ranked location nationwide was the 'Seoan San IC exit ramp section → Seoan San TG on Yeongdong Expressway, Seonbu-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do.' Over the past five years, this was the location in Incheon with the most speeding violations, totaling 119,889 cases, averaging 65.7 cases per day.
Notably, among the top 10 locations with the most speeding violations, school zones were also included. Near Baebong Elementary School in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, 111,305 cases were recorded over five years, ranking sixth. The area near Soyang Elementary School in front of Parkchon Punglim Apartments on Jangje-ro, Gyeyang-gu (from Parkchon Station to Gyulhyeon Station) is also a school zone. Over five years, 49,214 cases were detected, averaging 27.0 cases per day.

Assemblyman Han Byung-do warned that speeding is a dangerous traffic violation with a fatality rate of 20%. He emphasized, "Drivers need to comply with traffic laws to protect not only themselves but also the lives of others." He also suggested, "Since speeding enforcement frequently occurs at specific locations, the National Police Agency and the Korea Road Traffic Authority should regularly inspect and promote the top speeding violation spots and develop policy measures accordingly."
