Daejeon City Council's 'Free Public Transportation for Children Ordinance' Passes Standing Committee
Proposed by Representative Kim Jino... For Children Aged 6 to 12
The "Daejeon City Free Transportation Support Ordinance for Children," proposed by Councilor Kim Jino (People Power Party, Seogu District 1) of the Daejeon City Council Education Committee, passed the review of the Industrial and Construction Committee on the 10th.
The ordinance provides the basis for allowing children to ride subways and city buses free of charge. It stipulates the issuance of free transportation cards for children aged 6 to 12 and includes provisions to compensate for any resulting financial deficits.
Councilor Kim Jino stated, "Although various childbirth encouragement policies and significant budgets are being invested to address the low birth rate issue, support for children who are already members of society remains insufficient," adding, "I hope that through this ordinance, more than 87,000 children will be able to receive substantial benefits."
The ordinance is scheduled to be implemented in the second half of 2025 after being approved at the 3rd plenary session on the 12th and undergoing a preparation period, including consultation on social security systems.
