Pyeongtaek City Holds Joint Meeting of Public-Private Council for Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area
Nine Emergency Committees Formed... Change to Unified Hosting Method for Residents in Favor and Against
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province has changed the operation method of the public-private consultative body for the 'Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area Public Housing District,' where resident conflicts have continued over the project, with as many as nine emergency countermeasure committees involved.
On the 5th, the city announced that the 4th meeting of the public-private consultative body held on the 4th for the development of the Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area was integrated and conducted with both pro and con resident representatives attending. Until now, the consultative body meetings had been held separately with resident representatives divided into pro and con groups over three sessions.

The reason for the divided opinions among residents regarding the Jije Station Area development is due to intertwined interests surrounding the 'land readjustment' and 'expropriation' methods.
The Pyeongtaek Jije Station Area project was announced by the government last June as part of measures to expand housing supply. The project involves creating a public housing site of 3,3000 households over 4.53 million square meters covering Jije, Shindae, Segyo, Mogok-dong, and Godeok-myeon areas. The government plans to designate this area as a public housing district by the end of this year and complete the project by 2033.
To gather residents' opinions during the project promotion process, the city formed a public-private consultative body in March, including the city, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and resident representatives. However, residents around Jije Station who had been promoting urban development projects through the land readjustment method opposed the project, leading to sharp conflicts between pro and con opinions. As a result, nine emergency countermeasure committees emerged, and the project has not progressed.

Therefore, there is an analysis that it will not be easy to derive a smooth resident agreement even with the integrated public-private consultative body meeting this time. Residents' opposition to the forced expropriation method is strong, and even residents who support expropriation have sharply conflicting opinions over compensation prices.
