Next Year, 1,870 KATUSA Personnel to Be Selected
Military Manpower Administration Advances Selection by 2 Months... Competition Rate 6.8 to 1
The Military Manpower Administration publicly selected 1,870 KATUSA (Korean Augmentation To the United States Army) soldiers, who will enlist next year, through a computerized lottery. Notably, starting this year, the selection period was moved up by two months from November to September to enhance the convenience of those subject to military service, including expanding opportunities to apply in other recruitment fields.
The Military Manpower Administration will recruit 2,000 KATUSA (Korean Augmentation to the United States Army) soldiers who will enlist next year.
View original imageAccording to the Military Manpower Administration on the 4th, the public selection held the previous day involved an external computer expert explaining the verification results of the selection program. Then, six randomly chosen attendees input the initial random number seed into the computer system, which automatically selected candidates by enlistment month. A total of 12,715 applicants applied for this year's KATUSA recruitment, resulting in an average competition ratio of 6.8 to 1.
The selection results were announced on the 3rd at 5 p.m. on the Military Manpower Administration's website. Successful candidates are individually notified via AlimTalk (SMS), and enlistment notices are sent by email.

Those selected as KATUSA soldiers enlist at the Army Training Center and undergo five weeks of basic military training. They then complete three weeks of specialized training at the KATUSA Training Academy (KTA) before being assigned to major U.S. military units stationed in Korea to serve.
