New York Prosecutors: "Court Should Deny Request to Delay Trump Sexual Misconduct Sentencing"... Decision on 16th
Trump Requests Delay of Sentencing Date and Change of Judges
Prosecution Calls It a "Time-Dragging Strategy"
Court Schedules Sentencing for the 16th... If Denied, Sentencing on the 18th
Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and Republican presidential candidate, has requested a change of judge and a postponement of the sentencing scheduled for the 18th regarding the 'hush money payment for sexual misconduct' case. In response, the New York prosecutors have urged the court to reject this request. The prosecutors argue that this is a tactic by Trump to delay the court's sentencing until after the November election. The court is expected to decide on whether to accept Trump's request on the 16th.
According to Bloomberg News on the 3rd (local time), New York prosecutors said they delivered a letter containing this information last week to Judge Juan Merchan of the New York Manhattan Criminal Court.
Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, stated, "Federal law clearly does not guarantee such delays as claimed by the former president's side," and added, "Previous attempts to transfer the case to another court before the trial were all dismissed." He also pointed out, "The defendant's expression of concern about the timing of the verdict is a strategic and time-wasting tactic."
Earlier, the Manhattan Criminal Court delivered guilty verdicts on all 34 charges related to Trump's hush money payments for sexual misconduct at the end of May. Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the case, was scheduled to sentence Trump on the 18th of this month. However, Trump requested in mid-last month to postpone the sentencing until after the November election, and at the end of last month, he suddenly demanded that the case be transferred to federal court. Local media widely analyzed this as a strategy to delay the court's sentencing until after the election.
