Apple to Adopt OLED Panels for All iPhones Starting Next Year
All iPhones released from next year onwards are expected to adopt organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays.
According to a report by Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) on the 3rd, Apple is expected to equip all iPhone models, including the iPhone SE to be released next year, with OLED displays.
According to multiple parts companies, Apple has started ordering OLED panels for the next iPhone SE from two companies: LG Display and the Chinese display manufacturer BOE. The low-priced model, iPhone SE, which has been the only iPhone to use a liquid crystal display (LCD), will also be equipped with OLED.
Currently, Samsung Display supplies 50%, LG Display 30%, and BOE 20% of the OLED panels for iPhones, respectively. Japan Display Inc. (JDI) and Sharp, which had only supplied LCD panels for the iPhone SE in Japan, have been excluded from Apple's iPhone supply chain.
