Promoting Healthy Rice Consumption Culture Among Campus Members
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) signed a memorandum of understanding on June 3 at the university headquarters with the Busan Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Head Jeong Chanho) regarding the "Breakfast Eating Campaign to Promote the Consumption of Korean Rice."
Through this agreement, the two institutions will collaborate to establish a healthy rice consumption culture for the well-being of faculty and students, promote understanding of the value of agriculture and rural areas, and foster healthy eating habits. They will actively cooperate in conducting the "Breakfast Eating Campaign," as well as in promotional activities and campaigns.

View original imageAccording to KOSIS (Korean Statistical Information Service), the annual per capita rice consumption in Korea has steadily declined from 65.1kg in 2014 to 56.4kg in 2023, a decrease of 8.7kg (13.4%) over the past decade.
Along with the agreement, the Busan Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation held the "NH Rice To 米 U Day" (a day to introduce Korean rice) event at Pusan National University's Busan, Yangsan, and Miryang campuses, promoting rice consumption through a breakfast campaign for university students.
On this day, the cooperative provided a total of 700 Pusan National University students with free rice-based processed foods such as cup rice, rice snacks, yakgwa, nurungji, sikhye, and instant rice?500 students at the Saebyeokbeol Library on the Busan campus, 100 at the Narae Hall on the Yangsan campus, and 100 at the Student Hall on the Miryang campus. They also listened to students' ideas for expanding rice consumption and encouraged participation in spreading the breakfast culture and promoting rice consumption.
Pusan National University President Choi Jaewon said, "Thank you for providing free breakfast to our students. We will actively participate in the breakfast eating campaign and cooperate in promotional activities to establish a healthy food culture for faculty and students and promote a sound rice consumption culture."

Jeong Chanho, Head of the Busan Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, stated, "I hope this will be an opportunity for young people, who are our future, to develop a positive perception of rice and form healthy eating habits by practicing eating breakfast. Busan Nonghyup will continue to work with related organizations in the region to further spread a sound rice consumption culture."
