Oh Young-soo's side claims factual error, legal misinterpretation, and unfair sentencing
The defense of actor Oh Young-soo (80), who was prosecuted for forcibly molesting a woman, argued in the first trial of the appeal that the sentence in the first trial was excessive.
The 6-1 Criminal Appeal Division of Suwon District Court (Presiding Judges Shin Woo-jung, Yoo Jae-kwang, Kim Eun-jung) held the first appeal trial on the afternoon of the 29th for Oh Young-soo, who was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial on charges of forcible molestation.
On this day, Oh’s lawyer stated in a response submitted recently to the court regarding the reasons for the appeal, "The defendant has faced social condemnation, including being dropped from a series of films due to this case."
Oh was indicted without detention in November 2022 on charges of forcibly molesting a woman, A, twice: in August 2017, while staying in a province for about two months for a theater performance, he hugged her on a walking trail, and in September, he kissed her on the cheek in front of her residence.
The original court found Oh guilty and sentenced him in March this year to eight months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
The prosecution, which demanded a one-year prison term, appealed the sentence as excessive, while the defense appealed the first trial verdict on grounds of factual error, legal misinterpretation, and excessive sentencing.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 29.

Meanwhile, Oh gained fame as the "Kkanbu Grandfather" in the Netflix drama "Ojingeo Game" (Squid Game). He was the first Korean actor to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV category in the United States in January 2022.
