On that day, more than 20 maintenance personnel were deployed to operate equipment including a multi-platy tamper that aligns rail geometry, a regulator that arranges track ballast, and a track stabilizer that secures the track foundation.
Typically, detailed plans for the work schedule are made at least 40 days in advance in coordination with related departments of nearby stations. After completing railway operation safety consultations to block train operations and secure track safety, the scheduled work is carried out on the planned date.
President Han focused on inspecting whether the coordination process among workers and the safety assurance system were carried out smoothly within the sequential schedule and procedures at the site.
In particular, he thoroughly checked whether there were any issues with pre- and post-work coordination with nearby stations, real-time sharing of work progress, potential hazards near the tracks, and safety measures for workers.
Korail conducts more than 400 “blocking operations” daily, which involve controlling train operations during late-night hours using advanced track maintenance equipment. This process is repeated to ensure safety during train operations and to maintain and improve ride comfort.
