Floating Offshore Wind Farm Munmu Wind Passes Environmental Impact Assessment
Floating offshore wind power project Munmu Baram (CEO Ju Young-gyu) announced on the 28th that it has received final approval for the environmental impact assessment from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy after consultations with the Ministry of Environment and related agencies.
Munmu Baram is a 1,125 megawatt (MW) floating offshore wind power complex planned to be developed about 60 km off the coast of Ulsan. Munmu Baram stated, "With this approval, the project has taken one step closer to the final investment decision (FID) stage." Passing the environmental impact assessment qualifies the project to participate in the offshore wind power bidding market conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
During the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process, Munmu Baram conducted a comprehensive investigation into the potential impacts on marine and terrestrial ecosystems, as well as socio-economic effects caused by the construction and operation of the offshore wind power complex, and established mitigation measures to minimize these impacts. They added that they actively communicated with local governments, residents, fishermen, and other stakeholders to reflect a wide range of community opinions in the assessment.
Munmu Baram also explained that, in addition to environmental surveys, they conducted impact assessments on social and health aspects during the EIA process, complying with the enhanced standards of the international Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESHIA).
