Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is launching a special drug inspection targeting entertainment establishments in the area to block the distribution and spread of narcotics.
Recently, drug-related crimes have been occurring one after another, polluting our daily lives. In response, the district has formed a joint inspection team with the Seoul Metropolitan Civil Affairs Judicial Police and Yeongdeungpo Police Station to conduct special crackdowns to create a drug-safe Yeongdeungpo-gu.
This inspection focuses on 131 entertainment establishments in the area in relation to the revised Food Sanitation Act, conducting intensive crackdowns on narcotics violations. Establishments found violating regulations during the inspection will face administrative measures such as business suspension, and their names, locations, and violations will be publicly disclosed.
Earlier, to create a drug-safe city, the district conducted a joint public-private-police campaign to eradicate drug crimes near Yeongdeungpo Samgakji, where entertainment establishments are concentrated, in April. Additionally, the district has distributed and posted drug prohibition posters to all 131 entertainment establishments in the area and handed out drug GHB test kits, commonly known as "mulppong," to raise public awareness about drugs through various promotional activities.
Along with this, through business consultations with the Korea Entertainment Food Establishment Central Association Yeongdeungpo Branch for drug prevention in entertainment facilities, a voluntary inspection checklist was created and distributed to all entertainment bars so that business owners can voluntarily prevent and manage drug crimes.
The inspection items include ▲providing places for drug use or facilitating drug use ▲use of drug-related or similar expressions on business names or menus ▲other acts violating public morals, including compliance with the Food Sanitation Act, supporting establishment management.
Furthermore, the district supports 'anonymous drug testing.' Residents who suspect they may have been unknowingly exposed to drugs can receive free testing at the district health center. Exposure can be confirmed within 20 minutes, and tests are available for six types of drugs (Philopon, marijuana, morphine, cocaine, amphetamine, ecstasy). If positive, information on treatment institutions, medical expenses, and various support measures will be provided.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will continue to build an organic cooperation system with related organizations to carry out continuous inspections, and we will do our best to prevent the spread to alleviate residents’ anxiety and ensure safety. We will strongly respond to drug crimes and create a clean city Yeongdeungpo-gu safe from drugs.”
