Kim Wan-seop, Minister of Environment, "Establishing New Government-wide Climate Crisis Measures"
On the 26th, Kim Wan-seop, Minister of Environment, stated, "We will do our best to prepare a new nationwide government-level plan to strengthen national climate crisis adaptation that prioritizes the safety of the people."
On the same day, Minister Kim held an "Expert Meeting for Climate Crisis Response" at the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, and said, "In the era of the climate crisis, the scope of the environment has expanded throughout society, and the role and responsibility of the Ministry of Environment have also become significant."
The meeting was chaired by Professor Jung Soo-jong of Seoul National University's Graduate School of Environmental Studies, with other experts diagnosing government measures. The experts unanimously agreed that a high-intensity response strategy at the level of national reform is necessary to respond to the intensifying climate crisis, such as heatwaves. In particular, they suggested the need to expand climate adaptation infrastructure across all sectors of society and to establish measures to protect vulnerable groups.
