Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) awarded an honorary diploma to Kang Uigu, Head of the Busan Consular Corps, at the August 2024 graduation ceremony held on the 23rd.
President Jang Youngsoo presented the honorary diploma to Kang Uigu, Head of the Busan Consular Corps, at the graduation ceremony held in the university headquarters conference room, in recognition of his contributions to the development of the shipping industry, enhancement of economic cooperation between countries through his role as a civilian diplomat, and his support for the advancement of Pukyong National University.
Previously, Kang Uigu received an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Pukyong National University in 2005.
Kang Uigu is a world-renowned authority in the field of ship registration, having served as chairman of Daewoo Shipping and Cosmos Maritime, Honorary Consul and Chairman of the Classification Society in Honduras, Ship Registrar for the Belize National Maritime Port Authority, Goodwill Ambassador for Aruba, Honorary Consul for Panama and Portugal, Ship Registrar for the Bolivian government, Director-General of the Cambodia International Ship Registry, and Special Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Tourism.
He has made significant contributions to the development of Pukyong National University through multiple large donations and was honored with the 'Proud Pukyong Award.' He has also contributed to the local community as Vice President of the Busan Maritime Federation, Senior Vice President of the Korea Maritime Industry Development Council, Chairman of the Busan International Sister Cities Committee, and Chairman of the UN Memorial Park Public Relations Committee.
On this day, he stated, "I hope that all graduates will live their lives with love, study, and work to the fullest so that you have no regrets. I sincerely wish for Pukyong National University to become a cradle of knowledge that advances our region, country, and the world."

At this graduation ceremony, a total of 1,470 degrees were awarded at Pukyong National University, including 1,012 bachelor's, 360 master's, and 98 doctoral degrees.
