A Public Parking Lot to Open in Majang-dong Food Alley, Seongdong-gu
Relocation of Majang-dong Meokja Alley Businesses to Ansim Shopping Center and Completion of Unauthorized Facility Demolition; 60-Space Public Parking Lot to Open in October... Park Planned at Adjacent Bukmun Street Parking Lot Upon Completion, Expecting Improved Parking and Revitalized Traditional Market
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Wono) announced that it will create a public parking lot with about 60 spaces on the site of Majang-dong Food Alley (around Majang-dong 437 area).
Majang-dong Food Alley had been operating without permission for about 35 years, but the need for redevelopment in the area arose following a fire incident in March 2022. After long persuasion of the business owners in the area, all food alley businesses completed their relocation to the ‘Safe Shopping Mall Majang Cheonggye Branch (Majang Food Alley Town)’ in May. At the same time, the district started the complete demolition of unauthorized facilities on the food alley site and completed the redevelopment in June.
Furthermore, the district plans to utilize the redeveloped Majang-dong Food Alley site to create a public parking lot with 60 spaces. The public parking lot is scheduled to open in October, and currently, site maintenance and safety facility reinforcement work are underway.
Majang-dong, home to a large-scale livestock market, has experienced significant inconvenience for residents and visitors due to a lack of parking spaces despite heavy foot traffic, so parking convenience in the area is expected to improve significantly.
Once the parking lot is completed, the adjacent Bukmun on-street public parking lot (32 spaces) will be closed and converted into a park. This is expected to enhance green connectivity with Cheonggyecheon Stream and greatly improve the residential environment near Majang Livestock Market.
