KT&G Obtains Global Certification for 'Zero Waste Landfill'
Certification of Daejeon Plant 2 Following Cheonan Plant Last Year
Goal to Obtain Certification for All Business Sites by 2030
KT&G announced on the 19th that its Daejeon Plant 2 has received the 'Zero Waste To Landfill' certification from the global safety certification specialist 'UL Solutions.'
The Zero Waste To Landfill certification is an indicator that evaluates a company's efforts in resource circulation. According to the evaluation standards of UL, the certification body, the level of waste recycling generated at the business site is assessed and verified, and the certification status and grade are determined based on the recycling rate.
Daejeon Plant 2 produces fragrance capsules used domestically and internationally, and recycling options for the resulting waste are given top priority. In addition, continuous efforts have been made to minimize landfill and incineration of waste and to increase the recycling rate.
KT&G established the environmental management vision and strategy system called 'KT&G Green Impact' in 2021 and expanded participation to the entire group last year, actively carrying out environmental management activities such as greenhouse gas reduction, water usage reduction, and waste recycling.
In particular, the group’s manufacturing plants aim to achieve 100% 'Zero Waste To Landfill' certification by 2030. So far, four sites including KT&G Cheonan Plant, Daejeon Plant 2, and KGC Ginseng Corporation’s Buyeo Plant and Wonju Plant have been certified, and plans are in place to gradually expand this further.
