Gyeonggi Office of Education Strengthens School Safety Facility Inspections Ahead of New Semester
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is strengthening pre-inspections of school facilities ahead of the second semester opening.
The Office of Education urged schools at all levels to take proactive safety measures, such as inspecting vulnerable facilities like retaining walls and cut slopes around schools, as well as drainage systems, to prevent damage from future typhoons.
In cases where disaster recovery construction sites exist due to heavy rain damage, it recommended installing waterproof sheets on slopes in vulnerable sections and safety facilities such as barriers at construction site entrances and exits. Additionally, it called for surveillance activities including pre-inspection and management of hazards such as guide signs, falling objects, construction equipment and materials, and water barriers.
The Office of Education also plans to enhance crisis response capabilities at school sites by adding schools built through Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) projects to the fire disaster section of the "Disaster Preparedness School Field Action Manual" and distributing it to all institutions.
