This meeting format was established by Mapo-gu with the firm belief that "the answer lies in the field," allowing the neighborhood chiefs to directly observe the sites alongside explanations from relevant departments, thereby serving as a bridge to vividly convey information to residents.
On May 21, Mapo-gu held its first field-centered monthly meeting of neighborhood chiefs at Hongdae Red Road.
Participating in the meeting, Mayor Park Gang-su and the neighborhood chiefs walked from the R1 and R2 sections to the R7 section of Hongdae Red Road, which was newly renovated in April this year, inspecting the facilities. They also visited the Hapjeong-dong Sky Road, stretching from Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station to Mapo Saebit Cultural Forest, to explore ways to revitalize the commercial district together.
The June monthly meeting was held at Ahyeon Market and Ahyeon Citizen Parking Lot, and in July, it took place at Poet's Street in Sangam-dong and the soon-to-be officially opened pet camping site.
After inspecting the sites, Mayor Park Gang-su and the neighborhood chiefs gathered to share their impressions, discuss areas for improvement, and plan follow-up actions to conclude the meetings.
During the discussions, a suggestion was made to operate promotional teams by neighborhood as a development plan for the pet camping site. Currently, Mapo-gu is recruiting families with dogs to experience the camping site in advance.
This meeting style has also been extended to neighborhood community centers and is being applied to meetings of community leaders organized by neighborhood chiefs.
Mapo-gu expects that these on-site monthly meetings will greatly enhance residents' understanding of district administration and significantly aid cooperation between neighborhoods.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu stated, "As the saying goes, 'Seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times,' it is essential to see and experience the sites firsthand to vividly communicate Mapo-gu’s projects and policies to residents. We will continue to emphasize the importance of fieldwork and actively pursue on-site administration."
