Yangsan Holds Ulji Exercise Preparation Briefing... Focus on Citizen Safety
Yangsan City, Gyeongnam held a preparatory briefing session in the main conference room on the 14th to comprehensively review and check military, police, and administrative preparations for the successful execution of the "2024 Ulchi Exercise," which will take place from August 19 to 22.
Over 100 people attended the briefing, including Mayor Na Dongyeon, who is the chair of the Yangsan City Integrated Defense Council, Council Chair Kwak Jongpo, council members, all bureau and department heads, and relevant officials.
Marking its 56th year, the Ulchi Exercise is a comprehensive national crisis management drill aimed at establishing a robust national emergency preparedness posture. This year’s drill, under the name "Ulchi Freedom Shield" (UFS), will include crisis response to local provocations and wartime transition procedures.
On the 14th, a crisis management drill was conducted to prepare for local provocations. From the 19th to the 22nd, more than 1,000 participants from over 20 organizations?including civilians, government, military, police, and fire departments?will engage in tabletop exercises, wartime task discussions, a nationwide civil defense evacuation drill, and a joint live chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terror response drill at the Wungsang Water Purification Plant.
Notably, during this exercise period, bus advertisements are being used to help citizens easily locate nearby civil defense shelters through the "Safe Stepping Stone" service. In addition, materials outlining emergency evacuation procedures are being distributed so that citizens can independently find shelters and evacuate to safe zones as part of the drill.
Mayor Na Dongyeon emphasized, "Our top priority is to protect the lives of our residents and ensure their safety based on strong security and national power. I ask for your active participation and interest to ensure the Ulchi Exercise is thorough and realistic."
