The new Pyeongtaek City Hall, which will replace the aging city hall in Bijeon-dong, will be built on a site of 88,521㎡ in the Godeok New Town Business District 6 area, with a total floor area of 50,528㎡. The project, with a total investment of 346.2 billion KRW, will house both the city hall and the city council.
Through the construction of the new city hall, the city expects to resolve issues related to aging facilities and lack of space, as well as to promote regional integration and balanced development. To this end, the city plans to secure office space to accommodate a population of one million and create various communication spaces for citizens.
The city explained that the design competition will be conducted as an international bidding process open to all architects domestically and internationally, to ensure that the new city hall becomes a landmark.
The final winning design will be selected on November 28. Afterwards, the city will begin the design phase and start construction within next year. However, the city plans to continue using the existing city hall as a secondary office even after the new city hall is completed.
Jung Jang-seon, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, said, "Through this international design competition, we expect the new city hall to embody Pyeongtaek’s future vision while innovatively realizing urban space," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to ensure the smooth construction of the new city hall."
