Daewoo Foundation 2024 Academic Research Support Project Open Call
Up to 20 Million KRW Support Over 2 Years
Applications Open September 2-30
The Daewoo Foundation will open a public call for 2024 academic research support projects targeting researchers with doctoral degrees or higher both domestically and internationally this September.
The Daewoo Foundation's academic research support program was launched in 1981 to foster basic Korean scholarship, with the late Kim Woo-joong, chairman of the Daewoo Group, donating his entire fortune and leading Korean scholars including the late Cho Soon, former professor at Seoul National University, proposing the business model.
The call for proposals is divided into academic papers and research translations. Selected researchers will receive up to 20 million KRW in research funding over two years, and their research outputs will be published as part of the Daewoo Academic Series and Daewoo Classics Series.
The Daewoo Academic Series began in 1983 with Professor Kim Bang-han's "The Genealogy of the Korean Language," and to date, a total of 651 volumes have been published. The Daewoo Classics Series started in 2006 with Professor Baek Jong-hyun's "Critique of Pure Reason 1," with a total of 60 volumes published so far.
Researchers with doctoral degrees or higher from both domestic and international institutions are eligible to apply. The academic papers category is an open call for proposals, while the translation category targets classical or notable works.
The application submission period is from September 2 to 30. Detailed information including application forms can be found on the Daewoo Foundation's academic project website.
