The honorable discharge application submitted by former Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Colonel Lim Seong-geun, who is under investigation in connection with the death of Marine Corporal Chae, was not accepted.
According to the military on the 7th, the Navy Headquarters held an honorable discharge review committee meeting for Colonel Lim the day before and decided not to select him as a candidate. The Ministry of National Defense approved the Navy's review results on the same day.
The military stated, "The review committee conducted the review in accordance with the National Defense Personnel Management Regulations and related laws."

The National Defense Personnel Management Regulations stipulate that those under investigation or being investigated by investigative agencies for misconduct are excluded from the honorable discharge candidates.
Colonel Lim is under investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials in connection with the death of Corporal Chae.
