KenkoAero Signs New MRO Contract with ST Engineering
Kenkoreaerospace announced on the 6th that it has signed a new contract in the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) sector with Singapore Technologies Engineering Group (ST Engineering) of Singapore.
This contract involves the P2T (Passenger to Tanker) project, which converts Boeing 757 aircraft into firefighting aircraft. Specific supply scale and key contract terms have not been disclosed due to confidentiality clauses in the contract.
With this contract, Kenkoreaerospace is expanding its MRO business scope from the P2F (Passenger to Freighter) project to P2T. The company explained that continuously receiving new projects from existing clients is a recognition of Kenkoreaerospace’s technological capabilities, quality, and production capacity.
ST Engineering signed a contract for the Boeing 757 P2T project with Galactic Holdings in the United States in 2022. Galactic Holdings, which has a firefighting contract with the U.S. Forest Service, purchases the aircraft, and ST Engineering oversees the project from design, engineering, certification, to modification. The Boeing 757 P2T will be equipped with a fire retardant tank capable of holding approximately 26,500 liters (7,000 gallons) and a spraying system that accurately delivers retardant to fire areas.
Kenkoreaerospace will be responsible for the development and delivery of MRO aircraft skin (sheet metal) in this project. Since the Airbus P2F project was gradually secured over 3 to 4 rounds, additional orders in the P2T sector are also expected to continue in the future.
A company official stated, “The MRO business, which has been promoted since 2020, has grown very rapidly securing orders worth 380 billion KRW over the past three years. Based on this, ST Engineering has become Kenkoreaerospace’s largest revenue client, and we plan to continue cooperation not only in the MRO business but also in various fields such as defense.”
