Busan City will host the 12th Korea International Marine Leisure Week (KIMA WEEK 2024) from August 10 to 18 at Gwangalli Beach and other locations.
Organized by the city and hosted by the Korea Marine Leisure Network, the International Marine Leisure Week (KIMA WEEK) has been held annually at major beaches in Busan since 2013 to change perceptions of marine leisure and make it more familiar to citizens.
This year, a variety of marine leisure programs will be offered, including ▲marine leisure experiences ▲marine industry development research (academic conference) ▲marine leisure competitions ▲KIMA Beach (event zone) within Gwangalli Beach.
The event will kick off on the 10th at Gwangalli Beach with the 2nd Busan Mayor's Cup Paddleboard (SUP) Competition, and from the 16th to the 18th, KIMA Beach event zone will provide photo zones, experience booths, and spaces for tourists to relax and enjoy.
The Busan Mayor's Cup Paddleboard (SUP) Competition, newly established last year, will be divided into 'Lower Grade', 'Upper Grade', and 'Open' divisions with no age or nationality restrictions. A total of about 100 participants, including prize winners, will compete in short-distance (300m) and long-distance (1km) races.
From July 23 to the end of August, a variety of marine leisure experience programs will be operated for citizens to participate in.
The leisure experience events will take place at a total of five locations. ▲At Gwangalli Beach, there will be paddleboard (SUP), jet board, motorized activities, water playground, kayak and rafting; ▲at Songjeong Beach, surfing programs; ▲at Haeundae River Cruise (Suyeong River), cruise tours; and ▲at Suyeong Bay Yacht Stadium, yacht tours will be available.
All experience events can be enjoyed at discounted prices by pre-registering on a first-come, first-served basis through the 'Bada Ya Nolja' app (a marine leisure information promotion and reservation platform).
For more detailed information about the event, please visit the official website of KIMA WEEK 2024.
Park Geunrok, Director of Tourism and MICE at the city, said, "Through the various programs held during this International Marine Leisure Week, we will introduce marine leisure activities to many citizens and provide opportunities to enjoy the sea," adding, "We will continue to discover and plan various cultural and leisure events to make Busan a leading city for marine leisure tourism."
As part of the marine industry development research events at International Marine Leisure Week, the Marine Leisure Tourism Policy Forum is scheduled to be held in September.
