Harris to Announce Running Mate on the 6th... Expected to Reveal via Video
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris will announce her running mate within 24 hours. Similar to when President Joe Biden introduced Vice President Harris during the 2020 presidential election, this time the announcement is also expected to be made via video.
On the 5th (local time), according to U.S. political media outlet Politico, sources from the Harris campaign indicated that a video announcement introducing the vice presidential candidate may be made on the 6th. However, they added that the final decision on the announcement method has not been confirmed, and if news of the vice presidential nominee leaks to the media beforehand, the plan could be overturned.
Previously, Vice President Harris personally met and completed interviews with potential running mates including Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania; Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota; and Mark Kelly, Senator from Arizona, at her residence on Sunday. Other finalists include Andy Beshear, Governor of Kentucky; Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation; and JB Pritzker, Governor of Illinois. It was reported that Harris held virtual meetings or conducted interviews on the 5th with candidates other than those she met in person the day before.
The announcement method scheduled for the 6th is likely to be a video. In 2020, President Joe Biden officially introduced Vice President Harris as his running mate in a two-minute video released five days before the Democratic National Convention. The video began with then-Democratic presidential candidate Biden sitting in his office, making a phone call and asking, "Are you ready to get to work?" to which Vice President Harris responded, "Oh my God. I am really ready to get to work." The video then featured Harris introducing her background, career, and beliefs.
However, at that time, news of Harris’s nomination was reported by the media before the Biden campaign released the video. Shortly after, the Biden campaign acknowledged this fact through a post on Biden’s X (formerly Twitter) tagging Harris with the message "Let’s win."
Other major foreign media, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, reported that the current vice presidential candidates have been narrowed down to two: Governor Shapiro and Governor Walz. The sources said that notification to the candidates is expected to take place either tonight or just before the announcement on the morning of the 6th.
Vice President Harris is scheduled to campaign with her running mate for five days starting the evening of the 6th in seven battleground states: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Detroit, Michigan; Research Triangle, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Phoenix, Arizona; and Las Vegas, Nevada. The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago from the 19th to the 22nd.

Meanwhile, political media outlet The Hill reported on the same day that Vice President Harris is employing an election strategy that does not emphasize her identity, learning lessons from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who, like Harris, was the first woman to run for president but lost. If elected, Vice President Harris will become the first female and first Indian-American Black president.
