Additionally, together with the Korean Ministry of Education, the office will conduct invitational training programs in Korea and provide opportunities for outstanding teachers to participate in advanced courses, actively working to foster talent that will lead digital education in Guatemalan elementary and secondary schools. Furthermore, the office plans to expand and diversify its support, such as establishing state-of-the-art ICT-enabled classrooms locally.
This year, Gyeongbuk Office of Education also plans to establish a dedicated website to communicate with the 360 teachers who have visited from Guatemala so far. Through this platform, the office will share a variety of educational content it possesses as well as lesson materials produced annually by the LEAD (Leading Educators for Achieving digital-learning Development) teacher group.
Minister Ena Bella Giracca of the Guatemalan Ministry of Education said, “I am deeply moved by the unwavering friendship of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education over the past 20 years,” and welcomed the delegation, saying, “Please remember that you have another home in Guatemala and visit often.”
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik gave a special lecture titled “Education is the Future. Children are Hope” to 30 teachers who participated in the Edutech training conducted by Gyeongbuk Office of Education's LEAD teachers in Guatemala. In his lecture, Superintendent Lim expressed gratitude to Guatemala for its material support to Korea, which was devastated by war 70 years ago, and emphasized that the driving force behind Korea's recovery was the unwavering commitment to education.
He also visited local schools to observe the digital environment and educational conditions, and delivered warm encouragement during visits to Angel's Home, operated by Father Hong Seungui, and Girl's Home, run by the Maria Sisters.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, “Guatemala and Korea share a historical commonality of suffering under foreign invasion and rule,” and added, “As those who can best understand this shared pain, we will continue our friendship with even more attentive and heartfelt support for Guatemala's development.”
