Pukyong National University Introduces Unique Extracurricular Program with Virtual Reality-Based 'Metaverse Internship'
AI Recommends Majors and Career Paths, Enhancing Student Competencies with Innovative Technologies
Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) is drawing attention by introducing a series of unique extracurricular programs aimed at enhancing students' employability.
Recently, Pukyong National University launched and began operating the virtual reality-based internship program "InternINMeta," organized by the Student Competency Development Division and the University Job Plus Center.
This program is a platform jointly developed by Korea Job World and Korea Employment Information Service, providing students with the experience of working as interns at companies established in virtual reality, where they perform real-world tasks.
Currently, 80 students are participating in this program, which runs for two months in July and August. They log in to virtual companies online and work more than three hours each day. The students handle real-world tasks such as writing reports and proposals, product development, and weekly meetings in four job categories: business planning and administration, advertising/marketing, overseas sales, and applied software development. Upon completing the internship, students also receive a stipend.
In addition, Pukyong National University is developing an AI-based "Career and Aptitude Test-Linked Major Matching and Recommendation Program" for incoming freshmen of the Division of Liberal Studies, who will be admitted without a declared major next year. The plan is to utilize AI innovation technology to help students admitted without a major choose a field that suits their aptitude.
Furthermore, the university is increasing students' interest and participation in extracurricular programs by serializing a comic series on social media featuring "Jingili" (Career and Employment Guide), the promotional character for extracurricular programs.
In addition to curricular programs such as majors and liberal arts, Pukyong National University conducted about 600 extracurricular programs last year, including certification acquisition, employment and entrepreneurship support, counseling, volunteering, and external activities. Students participated in these programs approximately 47,000 times, showing enthusiastic response. The university's employment rate has also been steadily rising since 2021.
