Samsung Changwon Hospital Earns First Grade in Drug Benefit Appropriateness Assessment
Achieving Top Ratings in Four Evaluation Categories by Prescribing Safe and Effective Medications with a Patient-Centered Approach
Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital received a grade 1 rating in all four categories of the drug reimbursement adequacy assessment announced by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, demonstrating that the hospital provides appropriate medication prescriptions for patients.
The drug reimbursement adequacy assessment is conducted to analyze prescriptions of major drugs such as antibiotics and injectables, which have a significant impact on public health, in order to ensure proper drug use and reduce misuse and overuse. This assessment targeted both in-hospital and out-of-hospital prescriptions from 54,017 medical institutions nationwide, covering the period from January to December 2023.
Samsung Changwon Hospital achieved grade 1 in all four assessment categories: ▲antibiotic prescription rate for acute upper respiratory tract infections, ▲antibiotic prescription rate for acute lower respiratory tract infections, ▲injectable prescription rate, and ▲number of drugs prescribed per prescription, proving itself as a hospital that uses medications appropriately.
In particular, the antibiotic prescription rate for acute upper respiratory tract infections was 1.49%, significantly lower than the overall average of 41.42%. In addition, the injectable prescription rate was 1.33%, much lower than the overall average of 12.6%. These low prescription rates indicate that the hospital provides effective treatment to patients while minimizing the use of antibiotics and injectables.
