Pursuing a 'Lifelong Learning City' Offering Opportunities for Learning and Growth
Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has been re-designated as a 'Lifelong Learning City' in the 2024 Lifelong Learning City evaluation, organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education.
According to Yeongju City, the re-designation evaluation is conducted every three years. This year, the evaluation was carried out for 64 local governments based on two main areas (promotion system, project operation and performance), 10 categories, 13 evaluation indicators, and 20 detailed evaluation criteria, through both written and in-person assessments.
In the evaluation, the city received high scores for establishing a mid- to long-term development plan for lifelong education, improving the environment of the lifelong learning center, enhancing website accessibility, reflecting the requirements for improvement from the first cycle, and evaluating learning clubs.
Since first being designated as a Lifelong Learning City in 2013, the city has continuously operated various lifelong education programs and facilities to meet citizens' learning needs and establish a culture of lifelong learning.
In particular, through the lifelong learning center, the city has provided educational programs for various age groups and social classes, encouraging citizens' self-development and social participation.
With this re-designation, the city plans to strengthen the quality of existing programs and expand new learning opportunities. In addition, it will enhance vocational education programs to help citizens adapt to rapidly changing social trends and improve their competitiveness.
To increase citizens' participation in learning, the city is also exploring various measures such as establishing Happy Learning Centers for local lifelong learning and providing outreach programs to senior centers. Through these efforts, the city aims to develop into a 'Lifelong Learning City' where everyone can enjoy opportunities for learning and growth.
