The foundation is promoting the 'CMK ASEAN School' project to nurture next-generation leaders who will lead Korea-ASEAN cooperation. The CMK ASEAN School is a curriculum designed to comprehensively study ASEAN’s political security, economy, and socio-culture, and to conduct project research based on local investigations during overseas field visits. The foundation is developing and operating the curriculum in cooperation with the ASEAN Center at the Institute of Asian Studies, Korea University.
The foundation also operates an internship program that allows participating students to gain local work experience by advancing into ASEAN countries, helping them grow as next-generation ASEAN leaders. After completing the approximately six-month curriculum, outstanding students are eligible to participate in internship programs in cooperation with the ASEAN Foundation located in Jakarta and UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) located in Bangkok, Thailand. The foundation supports round-trip airfare and living expenses. In the first half of next year, ERIA (Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia) will be added as an internship program host institution.
The project research topics for the second cohort of the CMK ASEAN School include: ▲Analysis of the causes of delays in relocating Indonesia’s new capital and assessment of its impact ▲Why Malaysia and Thailand have the lowest performance in ending hunger among ASEAN countries ▲Why technological innovation R&D is not being conducted in ASEAN countries ▲Reasons for the declining birth rate trend in Thailand ▲Despite the Lower Mekong countries establishing joint norms such as the Mekong River Commission (MRC), what are the causes for failing to establish democratic water governance for sustainable hydropower development?
Using the knowledge and networks acquired through domestic lectures and field visits, research will be conducted by five teams. The final presentations are scheduled for the end of November.
