July 30: Sharing Kongguksu with Residents and Introducing 'Ontteul'
Completion Ceremony Scheduled for September, Expected to Serve as a Hub for Village Coexistence
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that on July 30th, a Kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) sharing event was held for residents at the newly established community workshop ‘Ontteul’ in Jegi-dong.
The event was attended by Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, officials from the ‘Godaeap Village Management Social Cooperative’ and the ‘Godaeap Village Urban Regeneration Field Support Center’.
The event began with the ‘Godaeap Village Management Social Cooperative’ and the ‘Godaeap Village Urban Regeneration Field Support Center’ providing Kongguksu and refreshments to the village residents. Following this, the cooperative and the center introduced the community workshop ‘Ontteul’ to the residents.
‘Ontteul’ is a space created as part of the urban regeneration project, developed through collaboration between the ‘Godaeap Village Management Social Cooperative’ and Dongdaemun-gu since 2022. A completion ceremony, combined with an exhibition of works by Korea University students, will be held in September. Going forward, Ontteul will serve as a hub space for community coexistence.
In the second half of this year, construction will begin on a four-story community center building on a nearby site (Jegi-dong 136-24), with completion targeted for the first half of 2025.
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “I hope that Ontteul and the upcoming community center will serve as hubs to connect residents and foster various activities that contribute to the village.”
