Oh Sang-wook, who became the first Korean male sabre fencer to reach the Olympic individual final and win the gold medal, is now challenging to become the first Korean fencer to win two Olympic gold medals.
In the quarterfinals, Korea trailed 8-10 after the second round, but the youngest member Park Sang-won reversed the situation with a 15-11 lead in the third round. Then, Oh Sang-wook delivered an almost perfect performance in the fifth round, allowing only one point and extending the lead to 25-19.
After Park Sang-won scored 30-21 against Shaul Gordon in the sixth round, Koo Bon-gil secured the victory by making it 35-22 against Fran?ois Cossion in the seventh round.
