Gyeonggi-do Raises Heatwave Warning from 'Caution' to 'Severe'... 9 AM on the 31st
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that it will raise the heatwave warning level from ‘caution’ to ‘severe’ starting at 9 a.m. on the 31st.
The Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters classifies the warning level as ‘caution’ when a heatwave advisory is issued in 19 to 31 or more cities and counties, or a heatwave warning is issued in 4 to 12 cities and counties. It classifies the level as ‘severe’ when a heatwave warning continues for two consecutive days in 13 to 18 cities and counties.
Gyeonggi Province explained that although the situation on the 31st does not meet the criteria for the severe stage, it plans to raise the level to severe as a preemptive response.
Therefore, Gyeonggi Province will implement a Level 1 emergency response. At Level 1 emergency, six disaster-related teams and 15 departments will strengthen preventive measures together with cities and counties and prepare for emergency situations.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province disseminated a special directive under the name of Kim Seong-jung, the first deputy governor of administration, urging active response to prevent casualties due to prolonged heatwaves to each city and county.
In the special directive, Deputy Governor Kim requested ▲cities and counties to establish thorough response measures centered on deputy heads to prevent casualties from heat-related illnesses ▲to thoroughly implement protection measures for vulnerable groups exposed to nighttime heat due to persistent tropical nights ▲to strengthen response systems for safety management in sectors such as crops, livestock, and infrastructure including roads ▲to actively promote behavioral guidelines such as refraining from work for farmers, fishermen, and outdoor workers during daytime.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province supported 2.1 billion KRW from the disaster management fund to cities and counties in June to strengthen protection measures for vulnerable sectors during the concentrated heatwave period after the end of the rainy season. Currently, autonomous disaster prevention groups in 31 cities and counties are conducting a comprehensive operation inspection of heatwave shelters.
