Gyeonggi-do Launches 'Honeybee Mite' Control Measures... 3,000 Beekeeping Farms in the Province
Gyeonggi Province is launching a focused control campaign against honeybee mites during the summer season.
Honeybee mites, one of the causes of honeybee deaths, transmit various diseases and viruses, reducing the productivity of apicultural products. In particular, honeybee mites cause direct damage to honeybee larvae and adults, and in recent years, damage from honeybee deaths has sharply increased. Summer is the active breeding season for honeybee mites, and without timely control, significant damage can be inflicted on beekeepers.
Accordingly, Gyeonggi Province announced that from the 29th of this month to the 12th of next month, it will operate a control period targeting 3,000 beekeeping households within the province.
Gyeonggi Province recommends prioritizing natural ingredients or physical control methods and selecting ingredients and products approved as veterinary medicines for beekeeping. Ingredients resistant to mites (Fluvalinate) are excluded.
During the control period, Gyeonggi Province plans to strengthen publicity and guidance for beekeepers on proper mite control methods and how to select appropriate medicines.
Choi Kyung-mook, Director of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Controlling honeybee mites is crucial to protecting the future of the beekeeping industry," and added, "We ask for active cooperation and participation to protect honeybees through thorough control activities and to create a healthy beekeeping environment."
