Kim Du-kwan and Jung Bong-ju Clash in Party Convention Debate... Lee Jae-myung Says "The Barrel Should Point Outward"
On the 28th, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, said regarding the verbal clash between candidates Kim Du-gwan and Jeong Bong-ju, "The muzzle should be pointed outward."
On the same day, at the joint speech event for party leader candidates held at the CJB Media Center in Seowon-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk Province, during the Chungbuk Provincial Party's National Party Members' Convention, Lee stated, "No matter how big the differences among us are, can they be as big as the differences with those we must fight and defeat?"
Previously, on the day before, candidate Kim criticized at the Busan joint speech event, saying, "Gaeddal (Lee Jae-myung's hardcore supporters) have taken over our Democratic Party," and questioned, "Can we win the next presidential and local elections like this?" In response, candidate Jeong Bong-ju demanded a retraction of Kim's remarks at the Chungnam joint speech event that morning, saying, "Candidate Kim Du-gwan made divisive remarks." Kim countered Jeong's criticism that morning by saying, "Saying that other voices within the party are unnecessary is a totalitarian mindset."

Lee seemed to be mindful of the verbal clash between the two candidates and emphasized, "A political party is fundamentally a gathering of people with different thoughts. A group of people who think the same way is called an organization. Not allowing different thoughts and enforcing strict hierarchy is what we call the military, gangs, or companies, not a party."
He continued, "Isn't a party made up of all kinds of people?those who think this way, those who think that way, people who look like this, people who look like that, tall people, short people?" He added, "If you have energy left, write one more comment, persuade one more person in your neighborhood, and let's discuss how this country should move forward."
