Taihan Electric Wire's Offshore Wind Power CLV Laying Vessel 'Pallos' Launched in Dangjin
The Palos, the only domestically owned CLV (Cable Laying Vessel) for offshore wind power in Korea, acquired by Taihan Electric Wire, made its maiden voyage on the 24th in Dangjin, Chungnam.
The Palos, which was acquired from the Netherlands last year, will transport submarine cables produced at the Dangjin plant to destinations around the world.
Designed and built as a CLV specifically for submarine cable laying from the outset, the Palos is superior in terms of safety compared to CLBs (Cable Laying Barges) made by converting barges, as it is equipped with its own navigation capabilities and a position control system.
Taihan Electric Wire, which built a cable factory in Dangjin in 2011, completed its first submarine cable plant in Dangjin this year and is currently expanding the second phase.
Governor Kim Tae-heum said, "With global carbon neutrality policies, offshore wind power is developing rapidly, making submarine cables a key future growth engine for the cable industry," adding, "With the Palos, a submarine cable laying vessel, Taihan Electric Wire is now capable of handling everything from design and production to construction and maintenance."
