View original imageGuro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced on the 20th that the 9th general election of Guro Children’s Nation was held at the district office auditorium, electing Jo Yoon-joo, a 6th grader at Shinmirim Elementary School, as president, and Jeong Se-rin, also a 6th grader at the same school, as the highest citizen.
Guro Children’s Nation has been a special educational platform since 2015 where voluntarily participating children can experience nation-building, the constitution, elections, and national administration, and learn about democracy.
This general election was held with the attendance of 51 members of the 9th Guro Children’s Nation committee, including District Mayor Moon Heon-il, city and district council members, mentors, and parents, totaling about 100 people.
The voter turnout was 64.6%, with 51 out of 79 total committee members participating. Jo Yoon-joo, a 6th grader at Shinmirim Elementary School, won the 9th presidency with 37% of the votes, ahead of six other candidates.
Jeong Se-rin, a 6th grader at Shinmirim Elementary School, was elected as the highest citizen with 55% of the votes.
On the day of the event, appointment letters were awarded to the chairpersons of six committees: the Education Committee, Traffic Safety Committee, Culture and Sports Committee, Food Hygiene Committee, Human Rights and Welfare Committee, and Environment Committee.
District Mayor Moon Heon-il said, “I believe that exercising the precious right to vote and participating in the election was a meaningful experience,” and added, “I hope children will continue to engage in enjoyable and beneficial activities for a happy nation.”
