According to Chungnam Province and other authorities, torrential rains of 176mm in Dangjin, 152.5mm in Seosan, 102mm in Taean, and 119.5mm in Asan were recorded on this day. The damage was particularly severe in Dangjin, Seosan, and Taean, where a strong wind advisory was also in effect.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, but more than 30 cases of damage to public and private facilities were reported, including embankments being washed away and houses destroyed by landslides. So far, 132 people from 92 households in nine cities and counties have been evacuated.
Dangjin City issued an evacuation order via emergency text messages due to concerns over the possible overflow of Dangjincheon, Namwoncheon, and Sigokgyo. The Dangjin Traditional Market was also flooded by the heavy rain, with vegetables, fruit, and fish swept away and the area left in ruins. The playgrounds of Tapdong Elementary School and Information High School in Dangjin were submerged, leaving about 1,000 students temporarily stranded before being sent home.
In Seosan, a landslide occurred in Unsan-myeon in the morning, causing a house to collapse and trapping an elderly couple in their 80s, who were later rescued. In Daesan-eup, two residents were rescued from a flooded house. The river water in Yonghyeon Valley overflowed, flooding nearby roads, and the embankment and road along Hongcheoncheon were washed away.
In Asan, part of the drainage channel embankment below Munbang Reservoir in Inju-myeon was washed away, and farmland was submerged when Gun gyecheon in Dunpo-myeon overflowed.
Although heavy rain warnings and advisories across Chungnam have been lifted, the ground remains weakened by the downpour, leading to landslide warnings in Asan, Seosan, Dangjin, and Taean, and landslide advisories in Cheonan, Boryeong, Geumsan, Buyeo, Hongseong, and Yesan.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that up to 120mm or more of rain could fall in the Chungnam region by the 19th.
