'Patrol Robots' to Appear in Parks and Child Protection Zones in Suji-gu, Yongin
Yongin City Selected for Robot Industry Promotion Institute's 'Regulatory Innovation Robot Demonstration Project'
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 16th that it has been selected for the "2024 Regulatory Innovation Robot Demonstration Project" organized by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
This project aims to expand the market size of autonomous driving robots and enhance corporate competitiveness by having local governments and companies, as demand sources, form a consortium to participate in the public offering. Yongin City participated in the public offering together with the Yongin City Industrial Promotion Agency and the autonomous driving robot specialist company "AR247," and was selected as a project operator in the "patrol robot sector." Through this selection, the city secured a total budget of 300 million KRW, including 150 million KRW in national funds.

AR247 is a participating company in the "Yongin City Mobility Consortium," which was formed in September last year. The city explained that the company obtained outdoor mobile robot operation safety certification in April and verified its stability by conducting outdoor book delivery demonstrations in the Giheung-gu area.
This autonomous driving patrol robot demonstration project automatically determines emergency situations based on artificial intelligence (AI) when certain behaviors occur during autonomous patrols. The city plans to deploy a total of two robots along the riverside, neighborhood parks, and child protection zones in Suji-gu and operate them until the end of the year. The city expects that the patrol robots, placed in blind spots without CCTV installation, will ensure residents' safety and have a crime prevention effect.
