Nonsan City Deploys 10,000 Soldiers and Volunteers to Flood-Affected Areas
Over 280 Soldiers from Army 32nd Infantry Division and Volunteers Sweat Together in Ganggyeong-eup and Beolgok-myeon
Nonsan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 12th that it will deploy a total of about 10,000 people to carry out emergency restoration work in areas where houses and other properties suffered severe damage due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
From the 8th to the 10th, torrential downpours caused rivers and roads to be washed away and trees to be uprooted, resulting in extensive property damage. In addition, around 500 residents had to be evacuated urgently.
The city mobilized about 280 soldiers from the Army 32nd Infantry Division, as well as approximately 430 volunteers, members of the Nonsan Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Model Drivers Association, and city hall officials in areas such as Ganggyeong-eup and Beolgok-myeon.
In addition, the city is coordinating with the military and volunteer organizations to provide manpower support to affected farms and plans to quickly assess the scale of agricultural disaster damage for support.
Mayor Baek Seonghyeon said, "We will establish a public-private cooperation system to ensure that restoration work proceeds smoothly so that residents can return to their homes as soon as possible."
