Goryeong County Launches On-Site Infectious Disease Prevention Education Program
"Small Habits Can Prevent the Spread of Infectious Diseases in the Community"
Goryeong-gun, North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Lee Namcheol), is conducting on-site infectious disease prevention and management education for the elderly until August 2 to prevent various infectious diseases.
Since the 11th, Goryeong-gun has been directly visiting senior centers in towns and villages, focusing on the prevention of acute and chronic infectious diseases such as tick-borne diseases (hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, Tsutsugamushi disease, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome), malaria, and tuberculosis. The education emphasizes the importance of personal hygiene, including proper handwashing, cough etiquette, and daily quarantine rules.
Tick-borne infectious diseases are particularly important to watch out for during the farming season, when outdoor activities such as farming, weeding, and wild vegetable gathering increase the chances of tick exposure.
In addition, tuberculosis is a disease that is difficult to detect because its symptoms are similar to those of a cold, and people over the age of 65 may not show any symptoms. Goryeong-gun recommends that the elderly receive a tuberculosis test once a year. The test is currently provided free of charge at the public health center.
