Gijang County Promotes Designated Day System: Transparent PET Bottles on Mondays
From This Year, Transparent PET Bottles to Be Disposed on Mondays
Promotion and Guidance Implemented... Early Settlement of 'Designated Day System'
Gijang-gun, Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 11th that it is actively conducting promotional activities to establish the "Designated Day for Transparent PET Bottle Disposal" system, which has been implemented from this year.
By separating and disposing of transparent PET bottles, most of the 78,000 tons of high-quality recycled materials imported annually can be replaced, and after processing, they can be reused as recycled containers, clothing, bags, shoes, and more.
To improve the recycling rate of transparent PET bottles, the county has changed the designated day for transparent PET bottle disposal to Monday, instead of the previous system where plastics and transparent PET bottles were disposed of together on Wednesdays. This change is intended to prevent the mixing of plastics and transparent PET bottles in advance.
In addition, since the end of last year, the county has been continuously promoting the system through various media such as the county website, social media, county newsletter, and press releases. At the same time, transparent PET bottles that are disposed of incorrectly are temporarily not collected, and stickers stating "Please dispose of transparent PET bottles on Mondays" are attached as part of active guidance efforts.
The county reports that public awareness of separate waste disposal has gradually improved over the past six months and plans to strengthen promotional activities to ensure the early establishment of the "Designated Day for Transparent PET Bottle Disposal" system.
Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, emphasized, "Separating and disposing of transparent PET bottles is a small but significant action that can be done in daily life to protect the environment," and requested, "We ask for the active cooperation of residents in separate waste disposal."
