Korea Nano Technology Institute Hosts 'Compound Semiconductor Forum'
Purpose of Discussing Latest Technology Trends and Development Strategies
On the 12th, the Korea Nano Technology Institute will hold a Compound Semiconductor Forum at the presentation room of the Korea Nano Technology Institute in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, under the theme of "Advancing and Developing the Compound Semiconductor Ecosystem."
This forum is held to discuss the latest technological trends and development strategies of compound semiconductors. More than 50 experts from industry, academia, and research sectors will attend. Moderated by Professor Kim Daehyun of Kyungpook National University, the forum will also include discussions on development plans for compound semiconductors and the establishment and operation of related consultative bodies.
Compound semiconductors, known as so-called III-V compounds, are attracting attention as a technology that overcomes the limitations of silicon semiconductors, which have reached the miniaturization limits of processes, due to their faster electron mobility compared to silicon. Compared to silicon semiconductors, they offer superior power efficiency and durability, leading to increased demand in advanced technology fields requiring high temperature, high current, and ultra-high speed. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to develop Suwon, where the Korea Nano Technology Institute is located, as a hub for industry-academia-research technology in four strategic fields of compound semiconductors (space/defense, communications, power sensors, etc.).
Seo Gwangseok, president of the Korea Nano Technology Institute, said, "This forum will be an opportunity to explore cooperation measures for the development of the compound semiconductor ecosystem and to establish practical strategies needed in each field," adding, "The institute will strive to support compound semiconductor technology and foster the industry as a center of such cooperation."
