View original imageAccording to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), as of 8 PM on the 8th, very heavy rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning is falling at a rate of 20 to 40 mm per hour (over 50 mm in some parts of Chungnam), mainly in southern Gyeonggi Province and northern Chungcheongbuk Province, where heavy rain warnings are in effect.
Earlier, the KMA lifted the strong wind advisory and heavy rain advisory around 4 PM on the 8th, but starting from 6:50 PM, it issued a total of five heavy rain advisories.
The areas currently under heavy rain advisories are △ Chungcheongnam-do (Gongju) △ Sejong △ Chungcheongbuk-do (Goesan, Chungju, Jincheon, Eumseong, Jeungpyeong) △ Gyeonggi-do (Pyeongtaek, Anseong) △ Chungcheongnam-do (Cheonan, Hongseong) △ Chungcheongnam-do (Asan, Yesan, Dangjin, Seosan) △ Chungcheongnam-do (Taean), among others.
Hourly rainfall amounts at major locations are 58.6 mm in Seosan, 39.0 mm in Sinpyeong (Dangjin), 37.0 mm in Asan, 30.5 mm in Taean, and 30.0 mm in Gongdo (Anseong).
Cumulative rainfall amounts at major locations from 5 PM to 8 PM on the same day show 33.0 mm in Gongdo (Anseong) and 32.0 mm in Poseung (Pyeongtaek) in the Seoul metropolitan area. In the Chungcheong region, Seosan recorded 60.3 mm, Taean 57.0 mm, Sinpyeong (Dangjin) 43.0 mm, Asan 38.5 mm, and Wonhyobong (Yesan) 29.5 mm.

View original imageThe KMA forecasts that southern Gyeonggi will experience very heavy rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning until tonight, the Chungcheong region and northern Gyeongbuk from tonight until the morning of the 9th, and the Jeolla region from early dawn to morning tomorrow, with hourly rainfall rates of 20 to 40 mm in some areas.
In particular, more than 200 mm of very heavy rain has fallen mainly in the Chungcheong region and Gyeongbuk since the 6th, raising concerns about damage caused by the heavy rain. Special caution is advised regarding traffic safety, landslides, and facility inspections to prevent various safety accidents.

Meanwhile, very heavy rain is falling in narrow areas, so there will be significant differences in rainfall intensity and amounts depending on the region. Some areas may experience intermittent weakening and strengthening of the rain, so the KMA advises referring to the latest weather information and weather radar images.
