Samyang Foods' stock is on the rise. Amid ongoing corporate value reassessments of food and beverage companies expanding into overseas markets, Samyang Foods, which exports cooking essence 'Yeondu' and organic gochujang, is gaining attention.
As of 10:08 AM on the 8th, Samyang Foods was trading at 36,000 KRW, up 3,550 KRW (10.94%) from the previous trading day.
The domestic and international sauce markets are also growing rapidly at over 10% annually. According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, domestic sauce shipment value increased by more than 30% over three years, from 3.05 trillion KRW in 2019 to 4.01 trillion KRW in 2022. The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) forecasts that the global sauce and seasoning market size will grow from $36.9 billion (approximately 51 trillion KRW) in 2021 to $59.5 billion (approximately 82.5 trillion KRW) by 2030. Fermented foods are leading global food trends. Domestic and international consumers are increasingly accepting various sauces without resistance due to rising demand for convenience foods, suggesting further market expansion.
Samyang Foods launched the premium product 'Yeondu Uri Kong,' made from 100% domestically sourced soybeans and vegetables, in October 2015. In April 2017, it released 'Yeondu Cheongyangcho,' brewed with domestic Cheongyang chili peppers, and in September 2021, it expanded consumer choices by launching 'Yeondu Organic,' made with 100% organic soybeans and vegetables. In March 2018, it was selected as the next-generation innovative product of the year at the Anaheim International Natural Products Expo, the world's largest organic and natural foods exhibition. That same year, it officially launched 'Yondu Vegetable Umami' in the U.S. market, actively targeting the global market. In May 2020, it won the Innovation Product of the Year award at the U.S. FABI Awards. In August 2022, it received high praise at the UK's '2022 Great Taste Awards,' with judges calling it "an excellent sauce that can replace meat-based broth," further affirming its excellence on the world stage.
From May 8 to 13, Samyang Foods participated as a sponsor in the Korean food exchange event 'Kore Dor, the Golden Land Korea' held at the Dijon Gastronomy Expo in France, supporting K-sauce, the foundation of Korean food culture and flavors. Yeondu attracted attention for enhancing flavor without compromising the color and taste of dishes, and the organic gochujang, which gently adjusts saltiness and spiciness to suit global palates while preserving the deep umami of fermented soybeans, received enthusiastic responses.
Park Jin-seon, CEO of Samyang Foods, recently told KBS in an interview, "In the past, large chains in the U.S. and Europe were reluctant to meet with us," adding, "Nowadays, they come directly asking for our products." He continued, "Sales are increasing by more than 30% annually," and noted, "We collaborated with Alicia, a world-renowned research institute in Spain, to study how well our products fit Spanish and French cuisines." Park also said, "Overseas, Yeondu is called the 'magic sauce,'" and predicted, "Home cooking will continue to grow."
