At the event, the Gyeonggi Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union stated, "Despite the continuous rise in living costs, the low wage increase rate has resulted in a reduction of the real wages of government employees every year, threatening their right to livelihood," and added, "Young government employees, who are the future of the public service, are leaving their positions due to wages at the minimum wage level."
They further emphasized, "Special measures for young government employees, including a substantial increase in government employee wages, are necessary."
The Government Employees' Union presented the following key demands: ▲ a fixed basic wage increase of 313,000 KRW for government employees ▲ an increase in seniority allowance for lower-ranking positions ▲ an increase of fixed meal allowance by 80,000 KRW to cover a lunch cost of 10,000 KRW (current lunch cost is 6,360 KRW) ▲ an increase of 35,000 KRW in position allowance.
